Anthrocide

Cody Cooke

This story started as a workshop piece in one of my creative writing classes. In my writing, I make efforts to decentralize human perspectives; I try to allow landscapes and climates to narrate stories that involve the human species and the world we inhabit. These efforts were central to the construction of this story, which directly challenges basic literary notions of plot and narration. Similar to the 2120 flash piece, this story is structured by “snapshots,” brief glimpses into human experiences that aren’t limited by points of view or settings. My attempt was to deconstruct the defined, linear way of storytelling to make room for a global story that is neither narrated by nor sympathetic to humankind.
